March 2016 Traffic & Income Report

March 2016 Traffic & Income Report for Shiny Happy Bright

Hey all! This is my fourth traffic report (and fourth month of blogging).  It has been great seeing the growth of Shiny Happy Bright this month and accomplishing a few goals I had in mind.

Traffic and income reports might seem like an odd thing to do, but I think they're important and helpful for a couple of reasons.

  1. It encourage other bloggers to see areas for growth and insight into what I've found is working (or perhaps not working!)
  2. It encourages me to keep going as I see growth and exposes me to some areas I need to work on.
  3. It gives non-bloggers a chance to see what it takes to run Shiny Happy Bright.

Here’s how Shiny Happy Bright did in March 2016:

What Made March Special

  1. Site Changes - I was able to launch a static homepage - one of my stated goals from last month. It gives people more ways to click around the site.
  2. Resource Tab - I created a resources page that will eventually host some event planning information and checklists. My current guides for outfitting your kitchen and using spices are there.
  3. Market Research - I am trying to understand my audience and how I can better serve their needs. I created and launched a survey, and have made several phone calls to interview people. If you are willing, please take the survey!

Social Media Followers

My Instagram was the big hit this month. I got re-grammed by an account with lots of followers - that was one of my goals for last month as well! I really think I'm taking better photos and learning which hashtags work well on Instagram. My photos are routinely getting over 100 'hearts' now and that makes me feel like I'm really getting somewhere.

My focus for April will be increasing the newsletter subscriber list - by creating an opt-in freebie that's downloadable when you sign up for my newsletter.

Also, I signed up for Snapchat and I have no idea what I'm going to do with it yet, so I may play around with that a bit.

Traffic for February 2016

March 2016 analytics

Traffic took a bit of a dip this month, because I didn't have the huge referrals from StumbleUpon. It was a wake up call for how easily traffic/pageviews can change month by month. I was happy that my bounce rate got better, because there were more options to click around and people didn't leave the site so quickly.

Expense Report

Some of the links below are affiliate links. All of the products and companies listed are ones that I use on a regular basis and highly recommend.

Total spent: $113.98

I didn't make any income this month. I'm not really trying to monetize yet, so overall I'm at -$113.98 for this month.

Affiliate Programs

In December, I joined the Amazon Affiliate program, which powers my shop. I'm not seeing much action with this. There are clicks here and there, but I'm not sure the affiliate thing is something I'll really get into. Other affiliate programs are on the table, but they want me to be at least 6 months old before I can work with them.

Goals for April 2016

  1. Create and advertise a freebie PDF on "hosting a killer dinner party" that will encourage opt-ins for the newsletter.

Long-Term Goals

  1. Create high-quality, delicious, and user-friendly recipes with an emphasis on healthy and mostly-vegetarian foods and post them 3 times per week.
  2. Connect with a community of healthy foodies and other bloggers
  3. Create an e-book on simple, 5-ingredient recipes and make it free for download when someone joins the mailing list.
  4. Increase monthly traffic to 50,000 page views by summer 2016 and 100,000 by December 2016.
  5. Grow my newsletter contacts to 500 by summer 2016 and to 1,000 by December 2016.
