Instagram Hashtags for Food Bloggers

Sharing is caring!

Here are some of the best hashtags for food bloggers to use and some ideas for finding new hashtags!

Why You Should Use Hashtags

Hashtags make it possible for new people to find your Instagram account. Instagram limits hashtags to 30 per post and 10 per story.

Many newer bloggers like to use 10 to 15 hashtags per post to try to get more eyes on their content. Instagram has recommended no more than 3 to 5 hashtags per post, but try a variety and see what works for you.

As you get larger, you might get more specific and use fewer hashtags, but it's a great way to engage more people when you're starting.

Instagram shadowbans users who reuse the same hashtags repeatedly, so it's important to keep changing the ones you use.

Where to Find Instagram Hashtags

One tool that's exceptionally helpful (especially if you want to copy-paste Instagram hashtags) is Display Purposes.

It gives you hashtag suggestions in your niche. Here's an example of the kind of hashtag cloud that you'll be given:

Other Ways to Brainstorm Hashtags

1. Think Seasonally

There are lots of seasonal hashtags on Instagram. Think about holidays or big events that involve food (#thanksgivingfood #halloweentreats #labordaybbq #gamedayfood).

These may not get traction for most of the year, but they're super popular in the lead-up to the holidays!

Also, think about more general seasonal hashtags like #summerfood #summereats #pumpkinspiceseason #coldweatherfood

2. Include the Category

Use hashtags for the type of food you're sharing - anything from #cocktails (of which there are many hashtags - #imbibe #mixology #drinkup #happyhour #instadrink) to #dinner or #lunch.

These will help people who are looking for specific inspiration find your photo!

3. Include Your Ingredients

Sometimes, people are searching for inspiration by a certain ingredient type, so include some of the highlights of your ingredient list, like #chicken #wildrice #blueberries #cheese.

If you want more eyeballs on your post, keep it general (for example, #cheese instead of #agedstilton).

4. Connect Locally

Some of your best connections and most avid followers will be people who live in the same city or area as you.

As a Chicagoland resident, I sometimes keep it more generic with something like #midwestbloggers or niche down to #chiblogger.

5. Include Brands

If you want to get the attention of a brand you'd like to work with, tagging them or using their hashtags on Instagram is a great way.

If you've used their products, give them a shoutout.
