Apple Crumble with Maple Syrup

This delicious apple crumble is a fall favorite! This is a refined sugar-free recipe that focuses on the flavor of the apples and has a little sweetness from maple syrup.

Ingredients

Filling:

  • 5 large Honeycrisp apples
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 ½ tablespoons maple syrup

Topping:

  • 1 cup old fashioned rolled oats
  • ¼ cup almond flour
  • ¼ cup finely chopped walnuts
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. 
  • Halve the apples and core them, then thinly slice 4 of the apples. Grate the remaining apple on a box grater. Place the apples in a 3 quart pan (9x13 baking dish or equivalent), and toss with the cinnamon, vanilla, corn starch, and brown sugar.

  • Combine the rolled oats, almond flour, chopped walnuts, cinnamon, brown sugar, and melted butter or oil in a mixing bowl. Stir till combined.

  • Sprinkle the oats topping across the apples in the pan.

  • Bake for 50 minutes. Remove the crumble from the oven and allow it to cool for 5 to 10 minutes before spooning into bowls.

  • Optional - serve with whipped topping, ice cream, or a dollop of Greek yogurt.

Notes

Storage - The cooked crumble will keep at room temperature for up to 2 days or in the refrigerator for up to 5 days when stored in an airtight container.
