Hawaij Spice Recipe

This delicious, savory hawaij spice blend can be used in soups, curries, and as a rub on meat.

Ingredients

  • 3 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 3 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons turmeric 

  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander seeds
  • 1 teaspoon green cardamom pods
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves

Instructions

  • Combine all the spices in a bowl and stir to combine.
    Hawaij spice blend in a marble bowl with a gold spoon.
  • Save in an airtight container, in a cool dry place, for up to 3 months. 

Notes

Sweet hawaij blend - if you want to make hawaij to stir into your coffee or for use in desserts, swap the cumin for the same amount of cinnamon and the pepper for the same amount of ginger, and omit the turmeric. Keep the other ingredients the same.
