Cut the ends of both sides of the onion. Use a melon baller or spoon to scoop out the center of the onion about halfway down.
Place the onion in the center of a large piece of aluminum foil on a rimmed baking sheet. Mix all the spices together and scoop half of them into the onion and sprinkle across the onion. Pour the butter into the center and add the remaining spices.
Bring the sides of the foil together to create a packet. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes.
Remove the onion from the oven and carefully open the foil. Serve immediately.
