This onion boil recipe is going viral on TikTok! It's great on its own as a snack or side dish or served with some rice for a meal.
Viral Onion Boil Ingredients
- Yellow Onion - you can use a regular yellow onion or a sweeter Vidalia onion.
- Cajun Seasoning - make your own homemade cajun seasoning blend.
- Old Bay seasoning - this really adds the traditional flavor of a "boil".
- Kosher Salt - brings out the natural flavor of the onion.
- Dried Parsley - adds a little herby flavor. You can leave this out if you don't have it!
- Garlic Powder - adds lovely allium flavor.
- Black Pepper - adds just a hint of heat.
- Unsalted Butter - creates the base of the sauce and adds wonderful flavor!

Substitutions & Variations
- Lemon Pepper Seasoning - some people make this recipe with lemon pepper which has a wonderful kicky citrus flavor.
- Dried Herbs - you can add additional dried herbs like rosemary, thyme, and oregano.

Ingredients
- 1 large yellow onion
- ½ teaspoon cajun seasoning
- ½ teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
- ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
- ¼ teaspoon dried parsley
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ⅛ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon butter melted
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
- Cut the ends of both sides of the onion. Use a melon baller or spoon to scoop out the center of the onion about halfway down.

- Place the onion in the center of a large piece of aluminum foil on a rimmed baking sheet. Mix all the spices together and scoop half of them into the onion and sprinkle across the onion. Pour the butter into the center and add the remaining spices.

- Bring the sides of the foil together to create a packet. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes.

- Remove the onion from the oven and carefully open the foil. Serve immediately.

Notes
Storage - Leftovers can be saved in the refrigerator for up to 4 days in an airtight container.

I'm trying this tonight but don't have Cajun spice so using some chili flakes and smoked hickory paprika as a substitute. Serving with sour cream.
