This avocado sauce recipe is creamy, delicious, and versatile—it can be used as a topping or a dip in many ways.
We love using it as a dip for quesadillas or tortilla chips, but you can also use it as a salad dressing, on top of zoodles (zucchini noodles), or in tacos.

Avocados make a wonderful base for many dips and sauces, but this sauce is special because it's got a little kick from the fresh lime juice and Tajin seasoning.
Tajin (pronounce tah-HEEN) is a Mexican spice blend that's a mixture of dried chilis, dehydrated lime, and sea salt. It's not very spicy but it's so flavorful!

Ingredients for Avocado Sauce
This recipe does not call for many ingredients - the key is to use good avocados that are ripe.
Underripe and you won't get the flavor, Overripe and you'll end up with a brownish mixture. I prefer Hass avocados.
- 2 ripe avocados
- ½ cup sour cream
- Juice of one lime
- ¼ cup chopped cilantro
- 1 teaspoon Tajin seasoning
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
How to Make this Recipe
This recipe is so easy to make and it's ready in minutes. Make it right before you want to serve it, so the avocado doesn't brown.
- Combine all the ingredients in a blender or food processor and blend to combine.
- Pour into a bowl and using the back of a spoon, create swirls across the top.
- Optional - top with additional cilantro, sea salt, and Tajin.
- Serve immediately.

- A blender or food processor will get you a really creamy, smooth texture, but if you'd prefer to make this by hand, you could use two forks or a pastry cutter.
- Try to serve this recipe right away. The lime juice prevents the avocado from browning immediately, but don't make it hours before you plan to serve it. It will keep for about 30 minutes to 1 hour before browning, but this is not a 'make ahead' recipe!
