This recipe is perfect for a dinner party or a holiday meal.

A bowl of lettuce, Asian pears, blue cheese, a half a radicchio, olive oil, grapes, salt and pepper, sugar, mustard, and red wine vinegar.

Ingredients You'll Need

Dressing - To make the mustard vinaigrette, you'll need olive oil, red wine vinegar, wholegrain mustard, sea salt, ground black pepper, and sugar.

Leaves - For the greens, you'll need baby arugula, some frisée lettuce, and half a radicchio.

Fruit - You'll use both Asian pears and red grapes to add sweetness to this salad.

Cheese - To add the savory creaminess to this salad, you'll use several ounces of blue cheese.

Instructions

Make the Dressing - Whisk together the olive oil, red wine vinegar, wholegrain mustard, salt, pepper, and sugar in a large mixing bowl.

Add the Greens - Add the arugula, frisée, and radicchio to the mixing bowl. Toss to combine with the dressing.

Plate and serve - Top the salad with the remaining cheese and slices of pear.

What Are Asian Pears?

Asian pears are yellow-green, plump, and juicy pears that are a lot like apples. They typically have a shape similar to an apple (unlike the typical triangular pear shape).

They're eaten when they're firm and don't need to ripen on the counter like other pears. They're best eaten fresh or in sauces (like Korean barbecue sauce).

Asian pears don't bake well, so I recommend against poaching them or using them in a crumble, etc. Their flavor shines in a fresh and crisp salad!
