Whipped Cottage Cheese

Sharing is caring!

This delicious whipped cottage cheese recipe is a wonderful high-protein breakfast or snack. It has the great tangy flavor of cottage cheese, but a creamier, custard-like texture.

You can top this recipe with all sorts of different options (see ways to use it below) But I love combining it with fresh fruit and granola for a delicious breakfast or great snack.

This recipe is great for people who like the taste of cottage cheese but don't necessarily enjoy the curds. The creamy consistency will win over people who aren't normally a fan of cottage cheese!

This fun creamy cottage cheese recipe has been popular on TikTok recently. It's a great alternative for people who do not like cottage cheese or like the texture.

Some people call it a healthier cheesecake alternative because of its thick, creamy texture.

You'll love how easy this is to make and what a sweet, low carb treat it is.

Cottage cheese has a high protein content (25 grams of protein in each serving) and essential nutrients; it also has 29% of your daily values of vitamin B12 (source).

Ingredients

It doesn't take much to make this creamy cottage cheese recipe - here are the simple ingredients you'll need.

Honey, berries, granola, and cottage cheese.
  • 1 pound cottage cheese (lowfat or full-fat cottage cheese will work - we like Organic Valley and Good Culture cottage cheese - I also like to use a small curd cottage cheese). Any type of cottage cheese can work though!
  • 1 ½ tablespoons honey
  • ½ cup berries
  • ¼ cup granola

Feel free to skip the honey if you want no added sugar. You can add other types of toppings to your cottage cheese bowls, see the list below under "Substitutions" for ideas.

Instructions

Spoon the cottage cheese into a food processor or high-speed blender. Pour in the honey.

Blend for 2 minutes or until the cottage cheese has a smooth consistency.

Place cottage cheese into 3 to 4 bowls or ramekins.

If the cottage cheese has been warmed from blending, place the bowls in the refrigerator for 20 to 30 minutes.

How to Use Whipped Cottage Cheese

Cottage cheese is wonderfully versatile and it's become popular to use it as a substitute in so many recipes. Here are a bunch of our favorite ways to use it.

  • Pasta - substitute it for ricotta or heavy cream in sauces for pasta
  • Spread - use it in place of cream cheese on a bagel
  • Dip - use it in place of sour cream or mayonnaise in a savory dip or make a dessert cottage cheese dip by combining unsweetened cocoa powder with a little honey or maple syrup.
  • Ice cream - use it in place of heavy cream or sweetened condensed milk in a no churn ice cream. Combine it with some vanilla extract, honey, and berries for a superb blend.

Topping Variations

You can top this blended cottage cheese recipe with your favorite toppings. Here are some easy ideas.

  • Chocolate - add some chocolate chips or blend in some cocoa powder for a dessert version.
  • Fresh Herbs - you can make a sweeter version with chopped mint or a more savory option with chopped chives or fresh dill. Serve with some pita chips for dipping.
  • Lemon Berry - add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice or some lemon zest along with blueberries or fresh strawberries for a refreshing version.
  • Jam - stir in some strawberry or raspberry jam for extra berry sweetness.
  • Tropical - top with pineapples and mango for a tropical blend.
  • Savory - serve with some pickles and ranch seasoning for a salty kick. Stir in a drizzle of olive oil for an extra creamy texture or some spices like garlic powder or red pepper flakes. Stir in some chopped fresh veggies like cucumber or bell pepper.

Equipment

You can make this recipe in a small food processor or a blender.

I've found that this recipe does not work as well in a larger food processor. You'll need to scrape down the sides quite often if you use a large blender or food processor.

Storage

The blended cottage cheese will keep for up to 3 days in the refrigerator or until the original expiration date on the package (whichever time is shorter). Store in an airtight container.

I highly recommend garnishing with the granola right before serving, so it doesn't get soggy.

Top Tip

If the cottage cheese gets warm after you've blended it (some smaller food processors can get hot when run for 2 minutes), place it in the refrigerator for 20 to 30 minutes before serving.

If you make it as four servings, it's about 1/2 cup of whipped cottage cheese plus the toppings.

I can't tell if I'm ecstatic, or devastated that I came across this recipe trying to incorporate Cottage cheese/protein into my daily world. I made the base, with a bit of sour cherries and a good amount of lemon... this tasted like cheesecake batter...and not a "healthy" one, either. I don't think half of it made it to the bowl. I could've drank it. Holy cow it's good. Thank you for saving me from eating ice cream today. πŸ˜πŸ’›πŸ’›πŸ’›
