Substitutions & Variations

Want to make some changes to this recipe? Here are some optional swaps or additional ingredients you can add.

  • Spices - want to add a little heat? Try adding a pinch of red pepper flakes or chili powder to the spice mixture.
  • Fresh garlic - you can substitute the garlic powder for 3 to 4 garlic cloves. Mince them and add them when you toss the broccoli with olive oil and spices.
  • Additional Citrus - you can add some lemon zest to the cooked broccoli as well if you want a sharper citrus flavor.

Storage

The roasted broccoli is best enjoyed immediately after you make it, but leftovers can be saved for up to 4 days in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

If possible, reheat in the oven or toaster oven to keep them crispy.

Tips for Making this Recipe

Cooking Tips - I recommend lining your baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil. It makes for easier clean-up and prevents the broccoli from sticking to the pan.

Recommended Tools - If your broccoli is not already chopped into bite-size florets, you'll need a small knife and cutting board. I suggest leaving the thin, tender part of the broccoli stalks on the florets, but the larger center stalk is too fibrous to use for this recipe. Here's a great way to enjoy peeled broccoli stems.
