Fresh Strawberry Tips and FAQs

Here are some answers to common questions that can help you make these wonderful fresh strawberry recipes.

When are strawberries in season?

Strawberries are in season from January to November. Their peak season is in the early summer months, when you'll find them in abundance at grocery stores and farmer's markets.

Do strawberries ripen after being picked?

Strawberries don't ripen after being picked. You'll want to make sure you're buying strawberries that are already at peak ripeness. They'll be firm and bright red (unless they're another variety).

How to make strawberries last longer?

My favorite way to extend the life of strawberries is to clean the strawberries in vinegar right when they get home. This helps to prevent molding or any fungus and makes the strawberries last about a week longer.

How do you know when strawberries have gone bad?

Sometimes strawberries go bad before you see mold growing on them. Never cut the mold off and eat the remaining strawberry. Don't eat strawberries with mushy spots, yellowing leaves, or a bad smell.
